& CAPACITY DEVELOPMENT
Training and capacity development is one of the
focus areas of Saral. Saral strives to enhance
the social and entrepreneurial capabilities of
the development sector through its services
spectrum of which training forms the most
important part. Saral capacity development
efforts focus on both institutional development
as well as human resources development.
INSTITUTIONAL
DEVELOPMENT - These services are designed to
fill the critical soft support needs of
institutions/programs. The services aim to
bridge the gap between planned and actual
performance through application of various
institutional development tools. These comprise
of visioning futuristic perception, strategy
evolution, training and team building, systems,
operational planning, and creation of managed
networks etc. It also involves developing
organizational capabilities for resource
mobilization and critical communication skills
like advocacy, documentation, information
dissemination, etc.
In
major programs there may be several layers of
varied types of institutions and the services
here focus on defining optimum service delivery
chain and evolving holistic institutional
development programs.
HUMAN
RESOURCES DEVELOPMENT - Training is an invasive
procedure of human mind and has to be precisely
designed and administered for human development
and performance improvement. Training of
practicing professionals is the thrust area with
focus on retention and application of skills/
knowledge gained through training.
Saral
provides ongoing capacity development services
through formal & informal training,
intensive class-room mode training, web based
training, multi-channel information
dissemination, self-learning training modules
(print & computer based), etc.
Concepts
like action learning, program learning,
experience sharing, developing live case
studies, simulation exercises, field exercises,
etc. are applied while imparting training.
CORPORATE
SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY
Saral believes involvement of private sector is
vital to development of society. Saral thrives
to enhance the role and involvement of the
private sector into currently grant-based
development programs. Saral works on developing
the concept of corporate social responsibility
which in India still is in its infancy. This
program involves creating awareness among the
private sector including large & medium
industries on various development challenges and
enhances their involvement.
The
activities include information dissemination
through print & e-newsletters, generating
discussion at open forums, personal meetings,
advocacy, facilitating partnerships among
private sector with government & voluntary
organizations and motivating & assisting
industries to develop in-house/workplace
development programs.
Industrial
Sponsorship Development Program is one of the
Saral initiatives towards enhancing partnerships
between private sector & voluntary sector.
KNOWLEDGE
MANAGEMENT
There is a vast gap between availability &
utilisation of knowledge resources. Saral aims
at bridging this gap through its knowledge
management services. Saral provides various
services to institutions and individuals in form
of print & digital media as a part of this
program. Saral regularly conducts formal and
informal knowledge dissemination &
management workshops for development
professionals. Saral also encourages and
provides distance learning services through
internet & e-mail. E-conferencing for
discussion sessions is also part of the program.
The
Saral research & documentation centre
continuously develops modules that can be
utilized for class room training as well as for
individual self-learning. Saral documentation
services include research, desk research,
production, reproduction and translation.
ADVOCACY
& SENSITIZATION
Advocacy can be defined as “course of actions
to facilitate the removal of external barriers
to clients’ well being”. The focus here
would be on the clients’ experience and their
specific issues.
The
advocacy serves two primary purposes (1)
increasing clients’ sense of power and (2)
fostering the environmental changes that reflect
greater responsiveness to accomplish their
needs.
Saral
works to create rights based environment among
stakeholders. The services offered would
emphasize upon the key issues that includes a
range of activities from empowerment to social
action, which may be helpful in identifying and
facilitating action and options for clients’
empowerment and well being.
Saral
also works on need-based and issue-based
advocacy. One of the major advocacy emphases is
again in tune with the SARAL MOTTO of bridging
gaps and creating linkages among various
stakeholders.
Saral
works on sensitization of institutions and
individuals with an aim of creating more open
and flexible environment for development
efforts. This includes sensitization efforts
with political leadership, social & opinion
leaders, power vendors and government agencies.
Saral also intends to work with defense forces
for awareness & sensitization on HIV/AIDS
issues.
Saral
has taken up ‘Media Sensitization Program’
as one of the priority needs. Pro-active efforts
including media workshops, arranging media
intervention in development activities,
publishing articles/stories on development
issues in newspapers/ magazines/TV channels, etc
are being taken up.
NETWORKING
Furthering the motto of bridging gaps, Saral
focuses on partnership development among
different stakeholders and on creation of
managed networks. Emphasis is on building public
private partnerships for sustainable
development. Partnership development initiatives
include information dissemination through
newsletters and e-news letters to individuals
and institutions. This includes zinformation on
relevant events/conferences/seminars,
circulating articles/best practices/case
studies/real stories, providing e-conferencing
facilities creating a platform for people
working on similar issues, organization of
workshops to create live interface between
government-donor agencies-NGOs/CBOs, etc
