TRAINING & CAPACITY DEVELOPMENT
Training and capacity development is one of the focus areas of Saral. Saral strives to enhance the social and entrepreneurial capabilities of the development sector through its services spectrum of which training forms the most important part. Saral capacity development efforts focus on both institutional development as well as human resources development.

INSTITUTIONAL DEVELOPMENT - These services are designed to fill the critical soft support needs of institutions/programs. The services aim to bridge the gap between planned and actual performance through application of various institutional development tools. These comprise of visioning futuristic perception, strategy evolution, training and team building, systems, operational planning, and creation of managed networks etc. It also involves developing organizational capabilities for resource mobilization and critical communication skills like advocacy, documentation, information dissemination, etc.

In major programs there may be several layers of varied types of institutions and the services here focus on defining optimum service delivery chain and evolving holistic institutional development programs.

HUMAN RESOURCES DEVELOPMENT - Training is an invasive procedure of human mind and has to be precisely designed and administered for human development and performance improvement. Training of practicing professionals is the thrust area with focus on retention and application of skills/ knowledge gained through training.

Saral provides ongoing capacity development services through formal & informal training, intensive class-room mode training, web based training, multi-channel information dissemination, self-learning training modules (print & computer based), etc.

Concepts like action learning, program learning, experience sharing, developing live case studies, simulation exercises, field exercises, etc. are applied while imparting training.

CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY
Saral believes involvement of private sector is vital to development of society. Saral thrives to enhance the role and involvement of the private sector into currently grant-based development programs. Saral works on developing the concept of corporate social responsibility which in India still is in its infancy. This program involves creating awareness among the private sector including large & medium industries on various development challenges and enhances their involvement.

The activities include information dissemination through print & e-newsletters, generating discussion at open forums, personal meetings, advocacy, facilitating partnerships among private sector with government & voluntary organizations and motivating & assisting industries to develop in-house/workplace development programs.

Industrial Sponsorship Development Program is one of the Saral initiatives towards enhancing partnerships between private sector & voluntary sector.

KNOWLEDGE MANAGEMENT
There is a vast gap between availability & utilisation of knowledge resources. Saral aims at bridging this gap through its knowledge management services. Saral provides various services to institutions and individuals in form of print & digital media as a part of this program. Saral regularly conducts formal and informal knowledge dissemination & management workshops for development professionals. Saral also encourages and provides distance learning services through internet & e-mail. E-conferencing for discussion sessions is also part of the program.

The Saral research & documentation centre continuously develops modules that can be utilized for class room training as well as for individual self-learning. Saral documentation services include research, desk research, production, reproduction and translation.

ADVOCACY & SENSITIZATION
Advocacy can be defined as “course of actions to facilitate the removal of external barriers to clients’ well being”. The focus here would be on the clients’ experience and their specific issues.

The advocacy serves two primary purposes (1) increasing clients’ sense of power and (2) fostering the environmental changes that reflect greater responsiveness to accomplish their needs.

Saral works to create rights based environment among stakeholders. The services offered would emphasize upon the key issues that includes a range of activities from empowerment to social action, which may be helpful in identifying and facilitating action and options for clients’ empowerment and well being.

Saral also works on need-based and issue-based advocacy. One of the major advocacy emphases is again in tune with the SARAL MOTTO of bridging gaps and creating linkages among various stakeholders.

Saral works on sensitization of institutions and individuals with an aim of creating more open and flexible environment for development efforts. This includes sensitization efforts with political leadership, social & opinion leaders, power vendors and government agencies. Saral also intends to work with defense forces for awareness & sensitization on HIV/AIDS issues.

Saral has taken up ‘Media Sensitization Program’ as one of the priority needs. Pro-active efforts including media workshops, arranging media intervention in development activities, publishing articles/stories on development issues in newspapers/ magazines/TV channels, etc are being taken up.

NETWORKING
Furthering the motto of bridging gaps, Saral focuses on partnership development among different stakeholders and on creation of managed networks. Emphasis is on building public private partnerships for sustainable development. Partnership development initiatives include information dissemination through newsletters and e-news letters to individuals and institutions. This includes zinformation on relevant events/conferences/seminars, circulating articles/best practices/case studies/real stories, providing e-conferencing facilities creating a platform for people working on similar issues, organization of workshops to create live interface between government-donor agencies-NGOs/CBOs, etc
